Key concepts
An angle (Winkel) is formed by two rays (Schenkel) that share a common endpoint (Scheitelpunkt). Angles are measured in degrees (°).\n\nTypes of angles:\n- Spitzer Winkel (Acute angle): < 90°\n- Rechter Winkel (Right angle): = 90°\n- Stumpfer Winkel (Obtuse angle): > 90° and < 180°\n- Gestreckter Winkel (Straight angle): = 180°\n- Überstumpfer Winkel (Reflex angle): > 180° and < 360°\n- Vollwinkel (Full angle): = 360°
The perimeter (Umfang) of a polygon is the total length of its boundary. It is calculated by adding the lengths of all its sides. The unit for perimeter is a length unit (e.g., cm, m).
The area (Flächeninhalt) of a two-dimensional shape is the amount of surface it covers. It is measured in square units (e.g., cm², m²).
A figure has axial symmetry (Achsensymmetrie) if it can be folded along a line (Symmetrieachse) such that the two halves match exactly. Each point on one side of the axis has a corresponding point on the other side, equidistant from the axis.
A figure has point symmetry (Punktsymmetrie) if it looks the same after a 180° rotation around a central point (Symmetriezentrum). Each point in the figure has a corresponding point such that the center of symmetry is the midpoint of the segment connecting them.
Key facts to remember
- 1Ein rechter Winkel misst genau 90°.
Worked examples
Example 1
Answer
Pay attention to the correct units for perimeter (cm) and area (cm²).
Example 2
Bestimme die Art des Winkels α = 125° und des Winkels β = 45°.
Answer
α ist ein stumpfer Winkel. β ist ein spitzer Winkel.
Remember the definitions for each angle type.
Example 3
Answer
A square has 4 axes of symmetry.
Common mistakes
- ✗Confusing perimeter and area, especially their units.
- ✗Incorrectly identifying angle types (e.g., calling an obtuse angle a reflex angle).
- ✗Forgetting to include all sides when calculating the perimeter of irregular polygons.
- ✗Not using the correct formula for area or perimeter (e.g., using a² for rectangle area).
- ✗Misidentifying or missing Symmetrieachsen in complex figures.
Exam tips
- ★Always draw a clear diagram for geometry problems if one is not provided.
- ★Double-check your calculations and units for perimeter and area.
- ★Use a protractor (Geodreieck) carefully when measuring or drawing angles.
- ★For symmetry problems, imagine folding or rotating the figure to verify your answer.
