Key concepts
The derivative of a function f(x), denoted f'(x), represents the instantaneous rate of change of the function at a given point. Geometrically, it gives the slope of the tangent line to the function's graph at that point. Key rules include the power rule, sum rule, product rule, quotient rule, and chain rule. Higher-order derivatives (f''(x), f'''(x)) provide information about the function's curvature and inflection points.
These are fundamental rules for calculating derivatives:\n1. Potenzregel (Power Rule): Für f(x) = x^n ist f'(x) = n * x^(n-1).\n2. Faktorregel (Constant Multiple Rule): Für f(x) = c * g(x) ist f'(x) = c * g'(x).\n3. Summenregel (Sum Rule): Für f(x) = g(x) + h(x) ist f'(x) = g'(x) + h'(x).\n4. Produktregel (Product Rule): Für f(x) = u(x) * v(x) ist f'(x) = u'(x) * v(x) + u(x) * v'(x).\n5. Quotientenregel (Quotient Rule): Für f(x) = u(x) / v(x) ist f'(x) = (u'(x) * v(x) - u(x) * v'(x)) / (v(x))^2.\n6. Kettenregel (Chain Rule): Für f(x) = g(h(x)) ist f'(x) = g'(h(x)) * h'(x).
Kurvendiskussion is a systematic process to analyze the properties of a function and sketch its graph. It typically involves:\n1. Definitionsbereich (Domain): Where the function is defined.\n2. Achsenschnittpunkte (Intercepts): Nullstellen (x-intercepts, f(x)=0) and y-Achsenabschnitt (y-intercept, f(0)).\n3. Symmetrie (Symmetry): Achsensymmetrie zur y-Achse (f(-x)=f(x)) or Punktsymmetrie zum Ursprung (f(-x)=-f(x)).\n4. Verhalten im Unendlichen (Limits at infinity): lim x→±∞ f(x).\n5. Extrempunkte (Extrema): Hochpunkte (local maxima) and Tiefpunkte (local minima) where f'(x)=0. The second derivative test (f''(x)≠0) determines the type of extremum.\n6. Wendepunkte (Inflection Points): Points where the curvature changes, found by f''(x)=0. The third derivative test (f'''(x)≠0) confirms an inflection point.\n7. Monotonie (Monotonicity): Intervals where the function is increasing (f'(x)>0) or decreasing (f'(x)<0).\n8. Krümmung (Concavity): Intervals where the function is convex (linksgekrümmt, f''(x)>0) or concave (rechtsgekrümmt, f''(x)<0).
Integration is the reverse process of differentiation. An antiderivative (Stammfunktion) F(x) of a function f(x) is a function whose derivative is f(x), i.e., F'(x) = f(x). The indefinite integral, denoted ∫ f(x) dx, represents the family of all antiderivatives, including an arbitrary constant C (Integrationskonstante).\n\nThe definite integral, denoted ∫_a^b f(x) dx, calculates the net signed area between the function's graph and the x-axis over the interval [a, b]. It is evaluated using the Hauptsatz der Differential- und Integralrechnung (Fundamental Theorem of Calculus): ∫_a^b f(x) dx = F(b) - F(a).
Key facts to remember
Worked examples
Example 1
Answer
f'(x) = 3x² - 6x + 2\nf''(x) = 6x - 6\nF(x) = (1/4)x⁴ - x³ + x² + C
Example 2
Answer
Nullstellen: x₁=0, x₂=√3, x₃=-√3.\nHochpunkt: H(-1 | 2).\nTiefpunkt: T(1 | -2).\nWendepunkt: W(0 | 0).
Example 3
